Calm And Collected: Tips For Anyone Touched By Panic.

Panic attacks can strike anyone at any time. Some people have them frequently and others may have one or two in their lifetime. These attacks usually occurs when a person is faced with a situation that he or she may feel endangered or unable to cope. There are many effective strategies that you can learn to deal with the symptoms of panic, and this article will tell you how.

If you frequently experience panic attacks and tension in your life, then you should try this progressive muscle relaxation exercise which will help you relax. Try segmenting your muscle groups and tensing them up and relaxing them progressively. This will give you an incredibly relaxed sensation in your body.

One of the most important things you can do when you are having a panic attack is to take deep breaths. Many times, when a person is suffering from a panic attack, they hyperventilate which causes them to not get the oxygen they need. Simply take a deep breath, hold it for 3 seconds and exhale.

Reduce the sensation of warmth associated with panic attacks. Quite often, a panic attack will be accompanied by intense feelings of warmth or heat around the face and neck. Try splashing your face with cold water, or use a cold washcloth on the back of your neck. This can have a surprising effect on the severity of the attack.

If you take medicine to help with your anxiety, is important that you do not stop taking your medicine because you think that you are cured. If you do this, you may revert back to your old anxious ways. Try to follow through to the end of your medication period.

Panic attacks sometimes stem from specific medical issues like irritable bowel syndrome or other disorders. Work with your doctor to treat medical issues that may contribute to your panic attacks. You may find that your panic attacks reduce in frequency when you are in good health and are not constantly worrying about health problems.

Pretend you feel great when you have a panic attack. Say out loud that whatever is bothering you is just fine. For example, "My heart is NOT fluttering! It's beating perfectly and smoothly and I am so thankful for that!" Rotate around your body and truly believe in the words you say and they'll come true in short order.

Watch out for yellow cheese dye! Some people have a major sensitivity, even allergy, to annatto, which is used to turn cheddar and American cheeses yellow. If you have any food product with this coloring in it, you may get horribly anxious and your heart may start to palpitate wildly. Why not eliminate foods with annatto and see if you notice a difference?

Think through the worrisome thoughts that go through your head during a panic attack one by one. Consider why you feel that way, whether or not it's rational, and how you can solve the problem you face. As you start to go through your thoughts you'll find that many will disappear and your attack will come to an end.

There are some causes of panic attacks which are preventable. For example, if no one in your family has a history of panic attacks, then you might want to get tested for chemical imbalances like hypoglycemia or hyperthyroidism. Also, if you are prone to panic attacks then avoid stimulants like caffeine or nicotine which can amplify feelings of panic or anxiety.

Experiencing panic is real and learning how to cope with it is key to living a fulfilling life. Regardless of the cause, people can live happily while having this disorder. When a panic attack occurs, try to understand that it is a temporary feeling and it will disappear within a few minutes.
