Panic attacks are like living a fearful existence; you panic about a lot of things that stress you out and it feels like you are going to die from it. Everything makes you feel like you live in fear and it probably puts a strain on your relationships. Don't worry; these tips below can help you find relief.

Some processed foods, and many fast food items, can actually trigger panic attacks. I won't name the company, but there is a type of fried chicken that would cause my heart to start palpitating within 30 minutes of eating it! Stick to wholesome, fresh foods you prepare yourself to avoid an attack.

Fear is a defense mechanism, so we should not only accept that it's good to have fear, but acknowledge that we're happy our brain is trying to protect us when we have a panic attack. The key is to let our minds know that what it fears isn't really out to hurt us, but thanks for trying.

If you are taking medications for your panic attacks and they are not working, it is important that you speak with your doctor. The dosage of your medication may need to be raised or you may need to be put on a whole new medication. Your doctor may even want you on two medications.

Consider attending ACT therapy (accepting and commitment therapy) to battle your panic attacks. It's a great way to learn to accept the condition you have and then change your thought processes and behaviors in ways which can help you to avoid triggers or even reprogram triggers so they're no longer a problem.

When you begin to feel an attack coming on, you should try to dis-empower the attack. Tell yourself over and over that your attacks have never caused any harm to you and panic attacks have never hurt any one else. Tell yourself that it does not mean anything at all.

Concentrate on your navel during a panic attack. Sit or lie down and think about your navel, the center of your body. Your navel feels no tension nor pain and it is your connection to the people you love. Imagine a silver cord going from it to the person you love more than anyone else and then draw their strength through the cord into your body.

Realize that the simple things that happen everyday should not be a significant source of anxiety. Mundane things such as forgetting to make the bed or washing the breakfast dishes should not be allowed to rule your day. Remember that these normal tasks and chores that you may overlook cannot prevent you from having a successful day.

If you get panic attacks you should learn some diversion tactics to help keep your mind a little occupied and off of the topics that get you stressed. One tactic that you can try is to count down from a hundred really quickly or to do math problems in your head. This will occupy your mind.

Increase the your confidence by telling yourself great things about yourself. Telling yourself positive things and passing positive compliments to others will deter judgmental feelings. These thoughts can lead to negative thinking which can increase anxiety and diminish control. See the positive aspects of yourself and others. Do your best to express these thoughts.

Fear is not the end of the world and neither are panic attacks. You are not alone and you are not the only one that has this condition. There are many people who suffer from it, and there are many treatments available. These tips should have given you some advice and peace of mind knowing you can start feeling better.
